Dry-Dock Supervision

Ship owners are providing shipyards with the opportunity to print money by poor management of vessel dry-dockings. Shipyards are dry-docking vessels every day of the year, but a typical ship owner or manager's superintendent looking after a group of ships only sees three or four dry-dockings in any three or five year cycle. Yards can and do take advantage of that experience gap. And ship owners don't help themselves, because they don't choose the right yard, or don't write the specification so that they get a clear and correct quote. Using a dedicated independent dry-dock consultant to oversee the whole process has advantages and benefits for both owner and yard.

Ned Marine Services experienced consultants plan detailed schedules and requirements based on the vessel’s dry-docking due dates and drafts specifications based on the completion of repair request forms and following inspection on board the vessel. It uses its global footprint to identify suitable shipyards in the area where the ship is trading then obtains quotations, review tenders and prepares comparison cost analysis spreadsheets. Supervision during the dry-docking is accompanied by negotiation with suppliers and the yard to obtain the best prices.
